Reiki and Energy Healing in NYC: Sessions and Training With Saba Hocek
The new mother who has not slept through the night in a year. The lawyer who notices her jaw is locked when she gets home. The retiree whose grief has settled in his chest. The client at the edge of grief, before a surgery, or after months of treatment that left the body raw. The client who has been reading about Reiki for years and finally booked the session.
Reiki holds all of them without insisting on a category.
Every session is given by Saba Hocek, a certified Reiki Master in the Usui/Holy Fire lineage.
The initial session is ninety minutes in a quiet room, fully clothed on a treatment table, hands moving through a sequence of positions the Japanese tradition codified a hundred years ago and Usui-lineage practitioners still practice today. You stay aware. You direct nothing. You lie down and let the body show you what it has been carrying.
What Ninety Minutes Looks Like
You arrive ten minutes early. You settle. You optionally choose an essential oil to be used during the session. You lie down on a treatment table fully clothed, in a candlelit room arranged for the work. Saba works in silence. Hands move through positions that start at the head and travel through the torso, on or near the body wherever the session calls for. Some positions are light touch. Some hover above the body. There is no manipulation and no requirement to feel anything in particular.
A weighted eye mask allows the client to drift somewhere between waking and sleep. Some report a quieter mind and a lighter body afterward. Some report little they can name, and that is also a real outcome of the session.
In the initial session, Saba uses her signature technique, Biological Intuitive Technique (BIT), to identify the root cause of emotional, physical, and energetic blockages, often pinpointing episodes from a particular age. Bringing this awareness to the client allows them to participate in their own healing process.
Afterward, water and rest. A light meal if you are hungry. The effects of a session carry for a week to ten days as most clients notice the work settling over the days that follow.

Why a Reiki Master Matters
When you book here, the session is led by a Master, the most experienced tier in the Usui/Holy Fire path. Saba completed every level of the training, received Master attunements, and has practiced long enough to teach the work as well as deliver it.
In practice, that means your session is deeper and more intuitive. Reiki sessions given by Reiki Masters leave room for the reflective conversation afterward, drawing on years of pattern-recognition rather than a fixed script. It does not guarantee an outcome. It does mean the hour is in highly experienced hands.
Saba is the Master who delivers every session with Biological Intuitive Technique at this practice, and the free fifteen-minute consultation is the place to ask anything before you book.
The Lineage Matters
The Reiki offered and taught at Self Empowered Minds is in the Usui/Holy Fire lineage. Mikao Usui developed Reiki in early twentieth-century Japan. The Holy Fire extension, carried through William Lee Rand’s organization, sits within that same line. Saba is a Master in this lineage and runs training cohorts that graduate new practitioners several times a year.
There are many practices that call themselves Reiki and offer something else. The session you book here is the one Mikao Usui codified, in the lineage William Lee Rand extended. Saba has been working in this line for years.
Biological Intuitive Technique
Inside the broader Reiki work, Saba developed a method she calls Biological Intuitive Technique, or BIT. The method came out of years of intuitive work and noticing patterns in the body associated with specific sensations. BIT integrates two layers into a single session:
- Reiki energy work as the foundation
- Intuitive observation of patterns Saba notices during the session
A BIT session integrates into the structure of a standard Reiki session. The method identifies the root cause of the client’s challenges and uses Reiki to begin releasing the blockages. We also teach BIT as a Master-level certificate path for practitioners who want to add it to their own work. Pricing on consultation. The Training page has the full path.
Reiki Training, If You Want to Learn This
Some clients arrive for sessions and discover they want to learn the work themselves. Saba runs Level I, II, and Master training cohorts that include three months of weekly mentoring circles (Level I does not include the mentoring), because integration is what makes a credential into a practitioner. The full path, prerequisites, and tuition are on the Training page.
The Travel the World Reiki Circle
We offer Reiki group circles three times a week. Sundays are with a sound bath. Tuesdays are themed and always with a unique activity. Thursdays are with a meditation and run via Zoom. The first Tuesday of every month, the Active Studios space becomes something between a Reiki circle and a community evening. In a group setting, each person receives Reiki. Afterward, food and appetizers featuring cuisine from a different country each month, wine, and an optional Bachata lesson. Training graduates enjoy five group classes free.
Booking the Next Session
You can book a Reiki session directly. If you are unsure whether the right starting point is a single session, the weekly circle, or the training path, the free fifteen-minute consultation is the place to figure it out. The Reiki room sits on East 81st Street between First and York, in the Upper East Side, blocks from the 86th Street 4/5/6 trains and the Q at Second Avenue.
